Product Description

The Mercenary sword is an imposing two-handed sword in the 15th century style.

This sword has a tempered blade, with a hidden, forged, full length tang. It features a polished steel S-curve guard and scent stopper pommel. This is a desirable piece for the well-armed soldier of fortune.

The blade is huge and fully tempered to make it a great battle ready sword. The blade itself and the edges near the hilt are 5mm thick. Edge of the blade is approx 2.3mm. It is a full encapsulated tang, meaning as much of the blade is within the handle as possible. It is tempered and with exception to a sharp tip - so it is definitely battle ready... not to mention a great buy.

Overall length: 132cm (52 inches)
Blade length: 100cm (39.5 inches)
Cross guard width:  32cm (12.5 inches)
Blade width: 5.5cm (2.5 inches)
Weight: 2.9kg

Combat Rating = 9 of 10 (in this case the rating is about sword strength not usability)

Note: This sword is a monster, more befitting an executioner than a warrior.

  1. As described, excellent value

Posted by Lee Harris on 13th Jan 2015

Not suitable for staged combat, or HEMA, where movements need to be fast and agile.

PERFECT for full contact HMB, where a weapon needs to be solid and heavy. Amazing at ats original and intended use of defeating pole weapons. Has been used in very heavy armoured combat, still right as a drum, and barely a nick in the blade.

  2. Too heavy for combat

I just got mine and thought with a rating of 9 out of 10 would be an excellent fighting sword. What I got was an overweight monster that cannot be seriously contemplated as useable in any safe combat. The edges are not as blunt as the description says but the blade is overly wide and very thick. It hangs very blade heavy in the hands and will need major rebuild work to be safe in re-enactment combat.
