These Landsknecht shoes are very suited to 16thCE re-enactment but are perfect in Style for the 'Black Legion' who are often pictured in black with red under garments showing through the slashes. The 'Black Legion' or 'Black Bands' were a group of Landsknechts mercenaries in French employ and who refused to return to Germany in accordance with Maximillian's decree after the imperial defeat at Ravenna in 1512. Under the command of the Duke of Gueldres, this company was outfitted in black jerkins and hose.
